As many of you know, I just had a baby. He is actually my 5th child, so I'm not new to this whole carseat thing, right? Wrong! They seem to change the rules/guidelines all the time. It's very important to make sure that you are using the correct carseat for your child's height and weight as well as having it installed properly and facing the correct direction. So I decided to look up the most current carseat guidelines and share them with all of you.

I recently saw a commercial that said children should be in a rear-facing car seat until they are 2 years old! (This chart from the NHTSA says "as long as possible") That prompted me to check on the regulations again. It should be noted that you must go by each carseat manufacturer's guidelines for that particular car seat. Make sure that you read and keep the instructions!

The Safe Kids Coalition does car seat checks periodically you can go to for more information on when and where you can go to have your car seats checked to see if they are properly installed and if you have the correct one for your child's height and weight.
